As part of a creative writing course I had to have a go at writing poetry. This is not something I had ever tried before and I was not confident that I would be able to. However, I now enjoy writing poetry and have collected a series of poems that I wrote on the Ferry whilst commuting to work. I have a 30 minute journey on the inter-isle ferry between Whalsay and Mainland Shetland, before and after work. I love this part of my day. Whether it is a beautiful sunny day with calm seas or so rough that I have to hold on tight to my cup of tea, there is always something interesting to see out of the window, or someone nice to chat to.
However, when the weather is warm enough to sit outside on the deck and watch the gannets, puffins and porpoises getting on with their busy lives, I feel like I am on a mini holiday. Surrounded by such gorgeous scenery it is easy to find the poetry in the moment.
